Diego Levy goes out to work like a hunter waiting for its prey. Violence suddenly
arises before him, and he shoots his camera a hundreds of times.
Buenos Aires, Mexico FD Medellín and Río de Janeiro are the photographic settings
of this book, a portrait of the crude reality of urban violence in Latin America.
This work of photojournalism won the First Prize in the Contest organized by the
New Latin America Journalism Foundation, and which was chaired by
Gabriel García Márquez.

After the political struggles and the terrorism exercised by the State during the appalling
dictatorship in the second half of the ’70s, a new scenario of delinquency and street violence
broke out, a phenomenon related to marginality and crime which started to increase at a higher
speed from de ´80s onward.
Diego Levy began to deal with these subjects in Buenos Aires by means of photographs that
he turned into a personal essay. These pictures progressively started to give birth to the series
Sangre, which later set out to seek similarities and differences in Río de Janeiro, Medellín and
Mexico.
Without the weight of the pressure, generally tendentious, found in the editorial office, his fixed
look and his harsh, blunt framing aimed neither at chiché not at the punch below the belt.
